As tension continues to grow between the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) and International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) the delays on the West Coast seem to be getting longer. These contract negotiations have been on-going since May and while both sides are continuing discussions, the lack of a firm contract in place is unsettling to both shippers and consignees across the country. There are alleged work slowdowns delaying transits as well as extreme chassis shortages. This is heavily affecting Port Los Angeles and Port Long Beach, and as cargo is being re-routed to other ports to avoid the backlog – it is also now affecting Seattle, Tacoma and Oakland.
