West Coast Port Congestion
In response to the severe port congestion issues being experienced along the US West Coast due to the ongoing ILWU contract negotiations, steamship lines are now implementing Port Congestion Surcharges to account for the disruptions being caused to their operations.
Effective Monday, November 17th Evergreen Line will trigger the following surcharges for all cargo arriving US West Coast ports.
20’ Container = $ 800.00
40’ Container = $ 1000.00
40’ High Cube = $ 1125.00
LCL shipments will also be affected according to respective cargo volumes per conveyance.
Other carriers will likely follow suit so shippers should expect to see these charges for cargo they have arriving into the West Coast over the next few weeks.
It has been reported that additional pressure is being put on all parties involved to reach a contract agreement, but at this point it appears that the situation is continuing to deteriorate.
