Union Pacific Suspends Rail Services to Midwest Amid Container Congestion

In Breaking News, Industry Insider, Industry News

The COVID-19 pandemic strikes again, this time halting Union Pacific rail services from West Coast ports to Global IV Terminal in Chicago for up to a week.

The railroad confirmed the suspension of services from the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, and Tacoma, hoping to ease container congestion at its terminal. The current congestion is a result of the seemingly never-ending pandemic related disruptions to the supply chain and labor shortages.

The suspension of services is scheduled to begin July 18 at 11:59 pm PDT.
