Port of Montreal Longshoremen Begin Strike

 In Industry Insider, Industry News

Longshore workers at the Port of Montreal launched a general strike on Monday, April 26. The strike will impact all services and terminals except for the services to/from Newfoundland via the Oceanex terminal, which is deemed an essential service.

This general strike follows a partial strike launched on April 13 by the Canadian Union of Public Employees 375 (CUPE). CUPE 375 indicates this strike is in response to the Maritime Employers Association’s (MEA) announcement that they would suspend guaranteed minimum pay to employees, citing an 11% decrease in cargo volumes.

If any of your shipments will be impacted, your Trans-Border representative will be in contact. Trans-Border will continue to monitor this developing situation and provide updates as needed. If you have any questions, please reach out to at info@tbgfs.com or (800) 493-9444.
