USTR Invites Public Comment on Proposed Section 301 Tariff Increase
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) released an official notice inviting public comment on the proposed tariff rate increase on Section 301 List 1, List 2, and List 3 from 25 to 30%. This rate hike is scheduled to take effect October 1, 2019.
USTR requests commenters to specifically address if the proposed rate increase would:
- Be a practical or effective method for eliminating China’s unfair trade policies, and/or
- Cause disproportionate economic harm to U.S. interests, including small- or medium-sized businesses and consumers.
All comments must be submitted electronically at www.regulations.gov by September 20, 2019 using docket number USTR-2019-0015. Please note that any increase in duty rate will not affect products with exclusions granted previously through USTR’s exclusions process.
