Storage and demurrage rising around world as COVID-19 lockdown policies instituted
In the past few days, we have begun to see major nations around the world, including the United States, institute lockdown policies due to the spread of COVID-19. On Tuesday, India, Pakistan, and Nepal initiated lockdowns in all or parts of their countries. China, although on the mend, is still not yet back to work at full capacity.
The situation remains extremely fluid and changing hourly. We are beginning to report a build-up of storage fees around the globe due to lockdown procedures. During this time, we ask that our sellers remain vigilant and be as communicative as they can with their buyers. Please confirm with your customer that they can recover cargo for either airport or port prior to shipment being moved.
Please note that any charges due to cargo not being able to be received by the consignee will accrue charges to the account of the cargo – which will be charges the buyer must pay before cargo is released.
We work to avoid additional fees and charges for our clients at all times, and will do our best to mitigate them amidst this tumultuous situation.
