President Trump Announced 10% Tariff on $300B in Chinese Goods
President Donald Trump announced a 10% tariff on the remaining $300 billion of goods and products imported from China not currently subject to tariff. This fourth tranche of tariffs, referred to as List 4, has been looming since May 2019. The additional tariffs cover approximately 3,805 HTS subheadings and are set to go into effect on September 1st.
Trade talks between the world’s two largest economies resumed earlier this week in Shanghai, with the White House calling them “constructive.” A major sticking point for the U.S. administration has been the the Chinese purchase of U.S. agricultural products, which the U.S. claims it has not held up its commitment on.
