Port congestion on west coast begins to ease
The Port of Los Angeles-Long Beach is finally seeing some relief after weeks of record container dwell times, a doubling of rail dwell times, and near-record truck turn times.
The Port of Los Angeles-Long Beach handled more than 38 percent of US containerized imports in 2018. Carriers even deployed 34 extra-loader vessels since November to handle the surge in imports, which many theorize was due to the U.S.’s impending tariff increase on certain imports from China. As cargo piled up at the port, overflow became a large issue and chassis were in short supply.
Officials at the port anticipate a return to normal operating conditions by mid-March. If you have any questions, please reach out to our import compliance manager, Bill Carey, at bcarey@tbgfs.comor give us a call at give us a call at (800) 493-9444.
