Port of Montreal strike continues indefinitely

Categories: , , ,

Longshore workers at the port of Montreal launched a general, unlimited strike this past Monday, August 10. This action follows a series of temporary strikes over the past six weeks. The strike will shut down Canada’s second largest port with the exception of shipments containing medical supplies and grain en route to certain destinations.

While the previous strikes only impacted certain terminals, this labor action will impact the entire port. Ships have been diverting to other nearby ports, such as the ports of Halifax and NY/NJ.

The strike is in response to on-going negotiations regarding the renewal of the longshoremen’s collective agreement with the Port. The longshoremen have not had a contract in place since 2018.

Trans-Border will continue to monitor this developing situation and provide updates as needed. If you have any questions, please reach out to at info@tbgfs.com or (800) 493-9444.
