CN Rail Shuts Down Parts of Network Due to Blockades
Canadian National Railway (CN) announced it has been forced to shut down significant portions of its Canadian network due to rail line blockades put in place by protesters opposing a pipeline building project.
The most significant of the blockades are located near Belleville, ON, and between Prince George and Prince Rupert, B.C. These blockades shut down CN’s access between Western and Eastern Canada, as well as Eastern Canada and the US Mid-West. There are no trains, freight or passenger, moving at either of the locations listed above, and hundreds of trains have been cancelled since the blockades began six days ago.
CN Rail obtained a court injunction on February 10, and police began taking limited action to remove the blockades. However, as of this writing, the major blockades listed above are still in place.
