Exporting to Australia — Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Season 2019-2020

Categories: ,

The Australian Department of Agriculture issued measures regarding fumigation against the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB). For sailings destined for Australia between September 1, 2019 and May 31, 2020, all high-risk cargo manufactured or shipped from/via target risk countries must be treated by an approved treatment provider.

Due to the rapid expansion of BMSB throughout Europe and North America, Australia has taken proactive measures to manage the risk of the invasive species arriving in-country. If not properly mitigated, the BMSB has the potential to critically impact the agricultural industries of Australia.

Shipments to the country will require fumigation and treatment, and high-risk goods that arrive untreated will be denied discharge and directed for export on arrival. For a full list of target risk goods and countries, as well as further information, please visit: http://www.agriculture.gov.au/import/before/brown-marmorated-stink-bugs.

As was the case with previous BMSB risk seasons, Trans-Border will ensure our client’s merchandise makes it to its destination within compliance. If you have any questions, please reach out to Yateen Patel, Director of Export Compliance & Project Management, at ypatel@tbgfs.com or (800) 493-9444.
