Additional Guidance Provided for Import of COVID-19 Materials

Categories: , ,

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced last week they would take action to increase the supply of COVID-19-related materials, such as personal protective equipment (PPE). The FDA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have posted a series of guidance messages meant to help expedite the import process for certain products, with the most recent guidance posted on Sunday.

For non-FDA-regulated general purpose personal protective equipment, such as certain masks, respirators, coveralls and/or gloves, FDA reporting is not required at the time of Entry.

Products regulated by the FDA must be reported as per usual at the time of Entry, but a special discretionary enforcement policy has been announced in response to the growing need for PPE. You can find a listing of product guidance documents that have been issued by FDA here.

You can view the most recent guidance bulletin posted here.

Trans-Border will continue to monitor the situation. If you have any questions, please reach out to Bill Carey, Import Compliance Manager, at bcarey@tbgfs.com or (800) 493-9444.
