March for Babies – Trans-Border’s March Charity
Each month, the staff and management at Trans-Border choose a local charity to donate to. Trans-Border staff are permitted and encouraged to dress down on Fridays if they donate to our monthly charity. For the month of March, we are supporting March for Babies and our in-office fundraising team, Makayla’s Mighty Marchers.
March for Babies, a member of the March of Dimes family, raises money in an effort to expand education programs, advocate for public policy, and fund research to find solutions for premature babies, their mothers, and their families.
March for Babies is near and dear here at Trans-Border. In 2016, Lauren Benway, one of Trans-Border’s customs house brokerage specialists, was introduced to the organization during the birth of her daughter. Born sixteen weeks early at one and a half pounds, Lauren’s little girl, Makayla, was a fighter from day one. Lauren likes to call it “micro preemie power.”
Since March for Babies entered her life, Lauren, her family, and her community have united to support families of prematurity and raise money towards research “so future moms and babies have the best start possible.”
Lauren and her family started their own March for Babies team – Makayla’s Mighty Marchers – and marched for the first time in 2018. Last year’s fundraising goal was $1,116, analogous to Makayla’s birth date, and the team is shooting to repeat that goal again this year!
Prematurity awareness month is in November and, this past year, Peace Bridge, where we often pass cargo over, was lit purple in support. Trans-Border will be offering our support throughout the year and are honored to donate our March charity proceeds to Makayla’s Mighty Marchers.
