Are You Prepared For The Chinese New Year?

It is that time of the year again; the Chinese New Year (year of the monkey) is around the corner and the need to ensure both import and export supply chains are running smoothly in the face of a two-week shutdown is of course extremely critical.

The holiday commences this year on Monday, February 8th and lasts for a week – however, many workers and families tend to take longer holiday’s to celebrate the occasion. Bottom line is that the worlds second largest economy will shut down commercially in terms of shipping services. If you have not already done so, we recommend taking the following steps to ensure there is no lapse with the sale and acquisition of merchandise during this holiday.

  • Always keep an open line of communication with your buyers (for US exporters) and suppliers (for US importers).
  • Try to book shipments with us as early as possible to ensure space availability – again communication with your overseas vendor/buyer is critical.
  • If your supply chain comes to a point where there is a immediate urgent need for cargo – consider airfreight options.
  • Remember – even though the holiday commences on February 8th, (Monday), many places will begin to shut down on February 5th – so consider this during your planning stages.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact us at 800-493-9444 should you have any questions about how this upcoming holiday may impact your supply chain.
