Welcome to Trans-Border, Ariene Afonso!

 In Company News, New Hires

Please give a warm welcome to the newest member of our import operations team — Ariene Afonso! Ariene comes to Trans-Border with years of freight forwarding experience, based both in the U.S. and Brazil.

Ariene hails from Sao Paolo, Brazil, where she was born, raised, and attended university.  Shortly after completing her education, Ariene participated in an international exchange program and came to the U.S. for a year to live and work in Pennsylvania. At the conclusion of her program, Ariene returned to Brazil where she began her career in logistics at a customs brokerage firm. Eager to return to the U.S., though, Ariene moved stateside in 2013, joining her husband who was living in Georgia at the time.

Now, in Upstate New York, Ariene and her family are facing a whole new set of challenges and experiences, including adjusting to the cold, snowy winter weather. In addition, since moving to the U.S., Ariene has worked exclusively on a remote basis and this will be her first experience working in an American office full-time. “I’m very excited to have regular contact with people,” she explains, “and everyone is from such diverse backgrounds… there’s so much to learn.” And, not for nothing, she feels the social impact of this increased interaction has greatly improved her mindset. “It’s nice to be able to buy fancy clothes for work and to have my husband waiting for me at the end of the day.”

Ariene is already excelling at Trans-Border and she credits this to her intensive training. “The training we had [at Trans-Border] is so much better than I’ve had in the past,” Ariene explains. She goes on to say she particularly values the time granted to sit with and shadow her colleagues, which each new Trans-Border trainee is offered several weeks of.

Ariene’s favorite part of her life is, by far and away, her husband and son. “I’m a happy person,” she shares, and goes on to explain she loves traveling, visiting new restaurants, and watching movies. She specifically loves stand-up comedy, including Dave Chappelle and Aziz Ansari, and her favorite movie is The Notebook. “I’ve seen it at least 20 times.”

“I really want to learn to be funny in English,” Ariene concludes, “I’m super funny in Portuguese, I swear…” We believe you, Ariene, and are excited to have you at Trans-Border! Stop on by her desk to say hello or send over a welcome message at aafonso@tbgfs.com.
