Marine Cargo Insurance

Marine Cargo Insurance covers goods from the time they leave the warehouse or store of the shipper. Coverage continues during the ordinary course of transit and while the goods are discharged at the final port.

After discharge of the overseas vessel, the insurance continues while the goods are in transit or temporarily awaiting transit and ceases when goods are delivered to the final warehouse at the destination.

Key Benefits:
  • Why you need it: To protect your business from financial loss. Sellers need the assurance that they will get paid for the goods sold and buyers need to receive their goods in marketable condition. Without proper coverage, you leave yourself susceptible to not only the loss of the merchandise, but also the cost of shipping and perhaps the duty and/or replacement of the merchandise.
  • What type of coverage you need: This depends on the terms of sale. You want to be sure your goods are covered throughout the move, from warehouse to warehouse. The cost of moving the goods should also be insured as you don’t want to pay transportation costs for something that didn’t make it to its destination or arrived damaged. If importing, you also want to insure the duty. U.S. Customs still collects the full amount regardless of the condition of the product.
  • How to insure your shipments: You have two options. Obtain your own comprehensive cargo insurance policy or request that Trans-Border Global Freight Systems insure each shipment.
  • Benefits of insuring through Trans-Border: We buy insurance in volume so our rates are often more competitive. Our Insurance policy is broader than other policies thereby offering better coverage. We will have most of the paperwork needed on hand to file a claim thus reducing the amount of work required of the importer or exporter. You will not be bothered with typing of certificates, mailing of reports or handling of detailed accounting.
