New Brazil Packaging Regulation
Effective immediately, The Brazilian Customs Authorities have implemented a new packaging regulation on all shipments importing into Brazil. It is no longer acceptable to use a general description on different types of packaging destined for Brazil. All export documents including commercial invoice, packing lists, bills of lading must be in compliance with the new packaging regulations. An example of the new packaging description is as follows:
New acceptable packaging description: 1 wooden pallet at 150 kgs, 2 plastic pallets at 100 kgs, 3 plastic drums at 200 kgs, 2 cardboard boxes at 100 kgs, containing machine parts.
It is now mandatory to mention each single package type separately with its specific type of packaging material and the weight of each.
Non-compliance of this regulation will result with letters of correction which will lead to fines by Brazilian customs up to $2900.00 per package amendment.
For exporters shipping to Brazil, please be sure to give a very detailed description of your commodities and packaging types on your export documents. Compliance with this regulation will save time and money, while non-compliance will be costly and time consuming.
